Is the Friendzone a Real Thing?

Some young men who think of themselves as “nice guys who finish last” commonly complain: “all the girls go for jerks” and lament that the females they are interested in have shoved them into The Box From Which One Does Not Return: the Friendzone. Are these concerns legitimate? Or should the guys really take a deeper look at what motivates women to date one person over another?
