SEXO: Latex, Pleasure and Rejecting the Fear-Based Paradigm

When I showed up at the William Way Community Center, I expected to see something cool. I knew Sexo, the exhibit showing until mid June promised to be sex positive, intriguing and… well, fucking sexy.
Plus, GALAEI, a queer multiracial social justice organization in Philly, has always done super impressive, creative work. And I knew they were a major force behind the exhibit.sexo 1

But what I didn’t expect was this incredible interview.

Sexo Project Manager Aaron Stella doses us with some serious paradigm shifting about HIV prevention, the bigger picture of the gay rights movement, and remembering what was so great about sex in the first place.

GALEI director Elicia Gonzales leads us through the exhibit and waxes philosophical about the meaning of pleasure and whether that pleasure gives us meaning.

sexo 2Photographer Peter Lien, whose sexy condom promotion work in the early 90’s prompted wild international controversy and undoubtedly launched a few erections, talks about the context of his work and its continued meaning today.

Listen in for an amazing conversation that might change the trajectory of your approach towards sex. And check out the exhibit while it lasts!

Listen here or on iTunes, where you can catch all the episodes even sooner. And you can see more photos of our visit here.
