What is street harassment? And why is it important to combat, when it seems almost innocuous compared to the spectrum of abuse to which humans are susceptible? Perhaps because it’s one end that makes the rest of the continuum more possible.
We’ve talked about it here before, remembering that even if you think it’s a compliment to yell to a passerby that their body parts are fantastic, the message might not be received that way. And it’s a better bet to elevate the conversation, just in case.
And who better to discuss street harassment than the awesome women of Hollaback Philly? I chatted with Anna and Rochelle about the activism the group does:
- new SEPTA ad campaign, (it’s awesome)
- website community space to share stories and support others who endure street harassment
- events and conversations in the community
- a frickin rad comic book
- and more!
