Nudity and Horror: A Conversation with Zuzu Zombi and Jo Pincushion

While horror is one of the most subversive genres, regularly featuring nudity, profanity, blasphemy, drug use and violence, it’s also one of the most conservative. All of the aforementioned “sins” ultimately lead to the punishment (and demise) of the characters who engage in them. You’re more likely to see a Catholic priest in a horror film than any other movie category. But some filmmakers are creatively playing with these tropes to indulge our voyeuristic desire for catharsis through scary movies. American Exorcist , created by the South Fellini guys who also made Alpha Girls, hopes to be such a scary movie.

zuzu zombiI sat down with two of the women involved in the project: previous guest Jo Pincushion and model/actress (and sometimes faux drag queen) Zuzu Zombi to chat about capturing sex on film, dick pics, what it’s like to try to date while in the public eye, getting glitter bombed and what we’d do differently if we remade Se7en.

As of this posting, the Kickstarter for American Exorcist is fully funded, with almost two days to spare, but you can still contribute and support independent art.

Listen to it here or on iTunesPodbay, or Feedburner, where you can subscribe and get all the episodes even sooner!
