she is a problemWhy are we, as a society, so much more fascinated with dead female artists than living ones? This is the question posed by She Is A Problem, a collective of performers who have created an original, immersive, interactive project that focuses on the lives and work of 6 women whose talent was heralded after their suicides, including: Francesca Woodman, Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Diane Arbus, and Kay Sage.

I chat with collective member Rebecca Buckley about the concepts behind the piece, her experience as a female artist and whether taking one’s own life is the ultimate act of empowerment.
