LGBTQ-Affirming Therapy: an Interview with Psychotherapist Peter Zook

As seen on a Sussex Directories Inc sitePretty much everybody needs therapy, but the folks who experience trauma, harassment, discrimination and other forms of marginalization can benefit from it even more. It’s important to find a therapist who is competent- not only at handling your issues, but also understanding your identity and how it shapes your reality. For many LGBTQ people, seeking therapy might mean going through a number of counselors before you find one who is culturally competent about the realities of queerness. Psychotherapist Peter Zook is an example of a professional who aims to fill in the gap in service by providing informed and affirmative care to queer, trans and questioning communities. We chat about the benefits of therapy, the importance of counselors being competent about LGBT issues and why he loves his work.
