It’s #TBT and time for a vintage podcast. This one originally went up in July 2013.
Everybody knew Emily Lindin was the 6th grade slut. She had size C boobs and one time let her boyfriend finger her. Boys and girls both harassed her about it at school and online.
And she remembers it all clearly now, as an adult. Because she kept every last instant message conversation from her youth. Inspired by a series of high profile cases of young women who were bullied about sexual experiences (including rape) to the point of suicide, Emily is now posting them, in chronological order, on her tumblr, The UnSlut Project.
It’s been called the “It Gets Better” project for slut shaming. It serves to both give insights to adults looking back and to show solidarity with those kids who are currently enduring middle school culture.
She chatted with me about the project, the experience of reliving these volatile years and why females, even ones who have experienced slut shaming, are some of the worst perpetrators of it.
