One of the hallmarks of great science fiction is that while it’s not true life right now, it portends a future that might become reality if we remain on our current trajectory.
There’s Fahrenheit 451, Alien, 1984, the Xenogenesis Trilogy, Black Mirror, Brave New World, and now….. Ovum?

Ovum is a short film directed by Cidney Hue about a mind-altering procedure that, in the future, is required before life-altering one. It’s an evocative and engaging tale, especially as recent legislation takes it from the realm of wild projection to something like prescience.
We talked to Hue about this film, her inspirations in the industry, the power of science fiction to impact culture, the state of women’s health care and rights and much, much more, including the fact I have a cat named Lt Ripley.
